Become a Community Health Nurse
A Community Health CNS works outside of the traditional hospital setting, usually within a specific community or with a public health agency or organization. Community Health CNSs focus primarily on developing basic health care systems that can be easily accessed by populations who currently have little or no access to basic preventative care; they may also work at either the local or federal level to integrate health care systems that are currently fragmented, to effect policy change, and to establish equality in the health care provided to advantaged and disadvantaged populations. A Community Health CNS must be skilled in health promotion/disease prevention, case management, program management, strategic planning, policy development, and must be able to work comfortably with culturally diverse populations.
