Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
A BSN degree provides students with the basic level of education to practice as a professional registered nurse. Additionally, most nursing leaders prefer that applicants have a BSN, which provides the best opportunities in today's job market. If you look in the classifieds, you'll find that a BSN is a requirement for many positions; it is the entry point for professional nursing practice. Today students have the ability to get their BSN degrees with the convenience of online education.
Online RN-to-BSN programs are designed for Registered Nurse graduates of associate's degree or diploma programs who want to complete their BSN degree. It provides credit for nursing skills already learned through school or work experience. Most often these programs are available with flexible schedules designed to meet the needs of working nurses. Classes might meet only evenings, or weekends.
Online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
An Online MSN degree in nursing is typically an 18- to 24-month program that allows a nurse to specialize in a particular area, such as advanced clinical training or research. Typical requirements to start an MSN program include the following:
- BSN from an accredited nursing school
- RN license
- Required GPA and GRE scores (set by a school)
- Some period of clinical work experience
Other related degree titles are: Master of Science in Public Health (MPH), Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Health Care Management, and Master in Health Care Administration (MHA).
