At Monmouth University, students benefit from quality academic programs, small classes, professors who meet the highest standards for teaching and academic excellence, a magnificent campus, and state-of-the-art facilities. Plus, Monmouth is just the right size to provide the variety and choice of a comprehensive university combined with the individual attention typical of a small liberal arts school. Monmouth's convenient location, in the heart of a high-tech business region, provides cooperative and post-graduate employment opportunities for many Monmouth students.
Within the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies, students can pursue a number of academic programs, including an RN to BSN, RN to MSN, or MSN Direct, as well as a variety of graduate and post-master's certificate programs.
The School of Nursing and Health Studies is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Accreditation is an indication of public approbation, attesting to the quality of the educational program and the continuing commitment of the sponsoring institution to support the program.
A post-baccalaureate certificate program is available for the study of Forensic Nursing, an emerging field where health care providers work with law enforcement officials to apply nursing science to public and legal proceedings. These nurses provide direct services to individuals and consultation to health care and law-related agencies. This program is part of Monmouth University's effort to contribute to the health care profession in Monmouth County and surrounding areas.
The post-baccalaureate certificate in School Nursing is intended for registered nurses interested in completing the requirements for the New Jersey School Nurse Certificate. The program includes 11 foundation credits that are usually included as part of a BSN program. Students with a baccalaureate degree in nursing will generally receive transfer credits for the foundation courses. The School Nursing concentration consists of an additional 23 credits. This includes the two required practica (one of which is a student-teaching experience), each involving one day per week in college determined field placements.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a post-master's degree program in which Monmouth University students gain the skills necessary to influence and improve health care infrastructure and outcomes through the delivery of quality care. By making use of advanced clinical skills and research, in tandem with the Monmouth University's dedication to personalized education, the curriculum focuses on evidence-based practice, organizational and systems leadership, information technology, inter-professional collaboration, and emerging practice challenges. The role of the DNP professional is to implement translational research and science into practice.
Throughout the program, nurses will gain the knowledge and skills needed to influence access to health care, to promote safety standards, and to advocate on a local, regional, and national level for policy that improves delivery systems. The DNP program requires students to complete a capstone project.

The mission of the BSN program at Monmouth University is to prepare a registered nurse for professional practice through integration of a general liberal education with professional learning and activity. The professional component of this education is designed to prepare a professional nurse who promotes, restores, and maintains health for individuals, families, groups, and the community.
The program is designed for graduate nurses from associate degree programs and/or diploma schools of nursing.
Because this program is designed for the working RN, whenever possible classes are scheduled to meet in a three-hour block of time, one day per week. When more than one section of a course is offered, both day and evening sections are scheduled. Students may attend on either a part- or full-time basis.
The RN to MSN Direct program is designed to allow nurses to more quickly attain a Master of Science in Nursing degree. Registered nurses who presently hold an associate degree or diploma in nursing will be able to earn an MSN degree without earning a baccalaureate degree.
Students without a baccalaureate degree will be accepted as conditional graduate students in the RN to MSN Direct Program. Students will need to complete a total of 150 credits. Graduate tuition and fees apply.
Students may be able to complete the program in as few as three years.
