Since the 1960s, Shenandoah University has played an integral role in the education of nurses in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. This rich tradition includes the provision of baccalaureate and master degree nursing programs. Students selecting SU will find themselves in an innovative, clinically-based curriculum that will facilitate their professional development as practitioners. The BSN and the MSN programs are accredited by NLNAC. Bachelor of Science in NursingBack to topThis traditional four-year program has been developed primarily for the student interested in living on campus and fully participating in campus life. It offers students the opportunity to begin taking nursing courses during the first semester of study. Accelerated BSN Second Degree ProgramBack to topThe BSN Accelerated Second Degree Track prepares students with the necessary skills and knowledge for entry-level nursing position in a variety of diverse settings. This track is an innovative approach, 15 months in length and designed for the student who already holds a baccalaureate degree. The program of study begins in the fall semester and is completed at the end of the following fall semester. LPN-to-BSN ProgramBack to topDesigned to meet the needs of the LPN who wishes to complete a BSN degree, this program can be completed in four semesters of full-time study if general education requirements are met prior to beginning nursing classes. A part-time plan is also available. Advanced placement is awarded for those who pass standardized tests and meet admission requirements. RN-to-BSN ProgramBack to topDeveloped for the Registered Nurse with an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Nursing who wishes to obtain a BSN degree. The program can be completed in 2 semesters of full-time study or 5 semesters of part-time study. Master of Science in NursingBack to topStudents selected for the MSN program will find themselves in a cutting edge, clinically-based curriculum that will facilitate their professional development as scholars capable of providing safe and innovative advanced care for those they care for. In addition, they will participate in leading the profession during a period of unprecedented demand for nurses capable of advanced practice and clinical management. The MSN program offers three specialty tracks: Health Systems ManagementDesigned to prepare graduates with advanced knowledge and skills to manage health care of populations in the evolving health care delivery system. The graduate will have competency in population and epidemiological assessment, cost-benefit analysis and the ability to apply evidence-based interventions and interdisciplinary care models to design, implement and evaluate healthcare programs for the population. A unique feature of this track is the ability to select a concentration in such areas as a Certificate in Health Care Management, Education, Advanced Clinician or an individualized course of study. This track can be completed in four semesters of full-time study. Family Nurse PractitionerPrepares you for advanced autonomous practice in primary and acute care settings. FNP's have Rx authority and are in high demand. A Post-master's certificate is also available within the Family Nurse Practitioner track. Nurse MidwiferyShenandoah University is one of 50 accredited schools in the country. In addition to our nationally known faculty, our coordinator of midwifery is a national leader in the field and author of, "Diary of a Midwife, Power of Positive Child Birthing." Starting salary is in the $75,000 range; Rx authority. RN-to-MSN ProgramBack to topThe RN to MSN track of the graduate program in the division of nursing enables students who are registered nurses without a BSN to obtain a MSN degree within one of three specialty areas: Nurse-Midwifery, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Health Systems Management. The graduate will have the competencies taught in their chosen specialty and, for the Nurse-Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner specialties will be eligible to take the appropriate national certification exams. Post-Master's Certificate - Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse PractitionerBack to topThe PMHNP Certificate is for RNs who hold a Master of Science Degree in psychiatric and mental health nursing. The program is designed to provide the psychiatric nurse specialist with the necessary knowledge and skills regarding differential diagnosis, health promotion and psychotropic medication management (prescriptive authority) fundamental to the role of PMHNP. Didactic and clinical course content will assist the psychiatric clinical specialist transition beyond psychotherapist, consultant and educator by adding knowledge and skills related to the practitioner role.
