Bachelor of Science in NursingBack to topThe baccalaureate program in nursing is based on an integrated, nursing-centered model intended to provide optimum preparation for practice as a professional nurse. Collaborative Nursing Program - Baccalaureate Degree for Registered NursesBack to topThe program is designed for Registered Nurses who desire a baccalaureate nursing degree, but have limited geographic access to a program offering that degree.
NEW! Direct Entry Master of Science in NursingBack to topThe Direct Entry Master's (DEM) program is designed for individuals interested in a career in nursing and who have already completed a bachelor's degree in another field. The program combines both an entry level pre-licensure curriculum with an advanced practice clinical nurse specialist (CNS) curriculum. The CNS curriculum focuses on the planning, delivery, and evaluation of advanced practice nursing care to a specified population. Students select one of the following specialty areas: adult health nursing (acute and chronic), community health nursing, psychiatric / mental health nursing, maternal-child nursing, and nursing systems. Graduates are prepared to assume a variety of advanced practice clinical specialty positions in health care. Advanced Practice OptionsBack to topThe master's program in nursing focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and preparation for Advanced Practice Nursing. Within this program, students pursue advanced preparation as either Clinical Nurse Specialists or Family Nurse Practitioners. Study in the master's program prepares the student to participate in planning and implementing nursing services to meet the special needs of clients, particularly in urban communities, and to participate in relevant research activities. Within the established curriculum, the college fosters independence and flexibility for an individual plan of study. MS/MBABack to topThe University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Nursing and the School of Business Administration have joined together to collaboratively offer a program designed to provide a combined nursing and business curriculum. The MS/MBA enables graduates to strengthen their performance as leaders and managers in nursing and health care administration. RN to MSBack to topThe RN to MS program offers an efficient, cost-effective strategy for RNs interested in completing both a BS and MS degree. Post-Nurse Practitioner Graduate Degree CompletionBack to topThis program is designed for baccalaureate prepared certified nurse practitioners seeking a master's degree. This program can be completed in one calendar year of weekend and internet classes. Doctor of Philosophy in NursingBack to topEmphasizing development of conceptual skills, the PhD curriculum provides students with critical analysis of the realm of nursing, its knowledge base, and the social and political contexts of nursing practice. Students develop a solid foundation in nursing science that prepares them for roles in education, clinical research, leadership, and health policy. Graduates are recognized for their leadership roles in nursing research, education, and practice and are the recipients of numerous prestigious awards. BS to PhDBack to topUWM offers a track for nurses with bachelor's degrees to pursue the PhD degree. The BS-to-PhD program does not include the clinical advanced practice preparation provided through the Master's program, but allows students to pursue research and scholarship goals at the doctoral level. Certificate ProgramsBack to topHealth Professional Education CertificateBack to topThis certificate is designed to provide additional preparation in educational principles and theory to support health professionals in their roles as educators of students, staff and clients. The program is offered collaboratively through the School of Education, and Colleges of Nursing and Health Sciences. Post-Master's Family Nurse Practitioner CertificateBack to topThis certificate is designed for master's prepared registered nurses who wish to expand their scope of practice as a family nurse practitioner. The course of study is a consecutive 12-month program beginning with the summer semester. DiversityBack to topThe College of Nursing at UWM is committed to the education of nursing students from diverse backgrounds and the development of culturally competent nurses. The College of Nursing Academic Enrichment Center provides a variety of academic and psychosocial support for students from diverse backgrounds. Intensive academic advising, supportive tutoring programs, mentoring, counseling and referrals to campus resources are available. Additionally, the Institute for Urban Health Partnerships and the Center for Cultural Diversity and Health offer students unique opportunities to increase cultural awareness, become proficient in providing health care to diverse populations, and help reduce health disparities in at-risk urban populations.
