The Practical Nursing prepares graduates to be practitioners and
employees within the discipline of nursing in a variety of
structured health care settings under the supervision of the
registered nurse or physician.
After successful program completion, graduates are eligible to
apply to state board of nursing for licensure by examination.
Once licensed, the graduate may be employed as a Licensed
Practical Nurse (LPN). Graduates of Spencerian's Practical
Nursing program have had an outstanding employment success rate.
A student will gain on-the-job experience in the clinical phase
of nursing. This is done in a variety of hospitals and health
care facilities under the supervision of qualified nursing
faculty. This program is offered in both the day and evening
divisions.
The graduate of the Spencerian College Practical Nursing Program:
- Assumes the role of a competent, caring practical nurse in a
variety of structured health care settings under the direction or
supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or
dentist.
- Uses the caring phenomena, functional health patterns, and
the nursing process to provide safe and effective nursing care to
individuals and families in the human health experience.
- Demonstrates self-direction and responsibility for
maintaining nursing competence by pursuing personal and
professional development.
- Communicates effectively with clients and all members of
healthcare team.
- Demonstrates accountability of practice with adherence to
ethical and legal standards of the profession.

This program acts as a "bridge" from LPN to ADN.
Graduates of the Nursing program will learn how to:
- Integrate advanced principles from the biological,
psychological, physical, and sociological sciences with nursing
theory to provide care and meet the needs of groups of persons in
all stages of health and illness throughout the life cycle.
- Perform a variety of psychomoter skills independently for
persons in a safe and effective manner, according to established
policies and procedures.
- Provide care to groups of persons with complex health care
needs found in acute and long-term care settings.
- Manage the care of groups of persons in a prioritized and
timely manner and appropriately delegating activities.
- Prepare to take the Registered Nurse Licensure Exam.
A Prospective Student Should:
- Be a current Licensed Practical Nurse
- Have completed 1000 hours of medical/surgical nursing
experience within the past two to three years.
- Have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher from PN program.
- Have achieved a score of 50 on the NET.
