The undergraduate and graduate nursing programs offered by the Department of Nursing at Quinnipiac University are based on the following philosophical beliefs about nursing, holistic health and education:

Nursing is a creative, goal directed and evidence-based practice discipline concerned with the health and dignity of the whole person. Professional nursing encompasses the use of the political process to influence change in the health care delivery system and foster support for nursing education and research.

Holistic health occurs on a continuum, results from continual person-environment interaction, and is unique to each individual. Each person has the right to a level of health that ensures the maximization of his/her potential as an individual, a family member and a contributing member of a community.

Education is a dynamic, cognitive, multi-sensory process that provides for an individual's continued growth and development in a changing world of diverse cultures. It occurs in a highly personalized, student-centered learning community which provides for a reciprocal interchange based on mutual respect and integrity. This encourages the learner to think critically and creatively, become an effective communicator, and be able to make informed value judgments.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The graduate nursing program at Quinnipiac University offers you the opportunity to pursue specialized studies in the following MSN tracks:

• Adult Nurse Practitioner
• Family Nurse Practitioner

In addition, Quinnipiac offers post-master's certificates in the following areas:

• Adult Nurse Practitioner
• Family Nurse Practitioner

All tracks are open to practicing nurses holding a baccalaureate degree. The MSN trains students to become specialists capable of practicing independently or as a part of a health care team. The program also promotes traditional as well as complementary health care. Students who already hold a master's degree in nursing may enroll to attain a post-master's certificate, and complete course work focusing on their chosen specialty.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Quinnipiac offers two tracks leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing:

• Generic BSN
• Accelerated BSN (for students with a bachelor's degree in another discipline)

The undergraduate nursing major at Quinnipiac is an intense educational experience that seeks to prepare competent, sensitive professionals, willing and able to assume positions of responsibility in a dynamic health care environment.

Students are provided with clinical experience totaling over 800 hours in facilities that include acute and chronic health care institutions, clinics, community health agencies and a variety of other settings within the community where health care is delivered.

In addition, students have ample opportunity to practice clinical skills in our extraordinary clinical skills practice lab on campus and also to work on a community-based education project with a faculty member.

Undergraduate nursing students are mentored by faculty who are specialists in adult, pediatric, psychiatric, maternal-child, gerontological and critical care, and community nursing.
