Master of Science with a Nursing Major

The Master of Science with a nursing major has two tracks:

  • Nursing education
  • Nursing leadership

Nursing Education. The nursing education track is designed for baccalaureate-educated registered nurses who want to become effective educators in nursing. Classes meet one night a week, and one course is taken at a time.

Nursing Leadership. The nursing leadership track is intended to provide skills necessary for nurses who are in management or leadership positions, or who plan to fill such roles in the future. Participants develop skills through academic and clinical settings.

These 39-hour programs begin with an 18 hour graduate nursing core. Students then separate into their specialty for the remaining courses. One course is taken at a time. Each course has 6 weeks of intensive study and includes weekly classroom sessions, group project activities, and directed independent study. The clinical focus and capstone experience are developed independently, based on the individual learner’s professional goals, and are self-paced. Enrollment is in the total program rather than individual courses.
