been the source of many discoveries creating positive change for
society, including co-op education, the oral polio vaccine, the
first electronic organ, and the first antihistamine. Each year,
this urban, public research university graduates 5,000 students,
adding to more than 200,000 living alumni around the world.
University of Cincinnati's College of Nursing creates leaders for
an industry that craves their expertise. Our students are
challenged to be agents for real change by a faculty of
experienced, practicing nurses. With our diversified suite of
online MSN specialties, graduates are empowered to drastically
alter the course of the health care industry and the lives of
countless patients. Online learning affords our students the
flexibility to work in their home community while earning their
advanced degree. UC MSN graduates also exceed the national pass
rate for certification.
Master of Science in Nursing - Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse
Educator
The Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Educator specialty is
a truly unique degree program. Traditional CNS programs ignore
the essential skill of teaching, but every CNS role requires
expert skills to educate patients, staff, and students. Likewise,
whereas a traditional Nurse Educator program allows you to become
an expert teacher, this advanced degree also makes you an expert
at what you teach. This program is ideal for the nurse who likes
variety and career options. As a CNS/NE you will focus on the
patient/family, nurse/nursing practice, and organization/system
in either an academic or clinical setting. This "dual degree" can
be earned in just two years!
Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner
Back to top
The Family Nurse Practitioner specialty is for nurses who
like to work with a variety of patients. These nurses strive to
become the primary care provider for families. They work with the
family unit across a broad spectrum of ages and throughout their
lifespan. These leaders have the unique ability to affect the
wellness of the entire family unit and form long lasting bonds
with their patients.
Master of Science in Nursing - Nurse-Midwifery
Back to top
The Nurse-Midwifery specialty is for nurses who share a
special bond with women. This is a steadily growing field with
more midwives becoming an alternative to the traditional medical
model of care. The expert knowledge gained through our program
enhances their ability to affect a woman's health not just during
pregnancy, but throughout the lifespan.
Master of Science in Nursing - Nursing Administration
Back to top
The Nursing Administration specialty is for the health
care managers. These nurses are true leaders in their industry
because of their expert knowledge of organizational systems,
organizational change, and the role nurses have in the global
health care arena. The NA program is the fastest path to a MSN,
enabling our graduates to make a difference in their communities
quickly. Classes focus on clinical reasoning, policies,
management, finances, strategy, HR, and leadership.
Master of Science in Nursing - Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical
Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner
The Psychiatric/Mental Health specialty is for nurses
interested in the human mind and behavior. These nurses are
focused on quality of life, and their work is based on asking
questions. The Nurse Practitioner becomes an expert at treating
communities, families, adults, and geriatrics. The Clinical Nurse
Specialist works with the same special populations but with an
eye towards using their expertise to improve nursing practice,
organization, and systems. The CNS also has an opportunity to
focus on the growing field of child and adolescent
psychiatric/mental health nursing. With their expertise in
behavior, many psychiatric nurses may find themselves at the
crossroads between health care and the law--working in
forensics, the prison system, or with victims of abuse.
Master of Science in Nursing - Women's Health Nurse Practitioner
Back to top
The Women's Health Nurse Practitioner specialty is for
nurses who share a special bond with their female patients.
Students receive expert training on the unique needs and
treatments of a woman. Women's Health Nurse Practitioners look to
become leaders in a variety of settings, and to fulfill the role
of a primary care provider for their female patients.

Accreditation:
Regional accreditation is the primary type of institutional
accreditation in the United States. Some institutions with online
Master of Science in Nursing programs hold national accreditation
rather than regional accreditation because they are unwilling or
unable to meet the rigorous standards of regional accreditation.
You should also be aware that many educational institutions
holding regional accreditation do not recognize credits or
degrees earned at other institutions that are nationally
accredited. This will be important to you if transferring from
one institution to another part way through a degree program, or
if you plan to pursue additional degrees at different colleges.
