The Nurse Assistant program is a comprehensive course designed to
teach students the skills and abilities essential to the
provision of basic care to patients and residents in hospitals
and long term care facilities. Graduates of this program will be
able to communicate and interact effectively with patients,
assist patients in attaining and maintaining maximum functional
independence, while observing patient rights. They will learn how
to perform vital signs, apply the elements of basic nutrition in
meal planning, and follow infection control measures.
Additionally, they will be able to apply proper body mechanics in
bed making, lifting, and turning patients. Graduates of this
program may find entry-level employment as a nurse aide with
hospitals and nursing homes.

This program is designed to prepare students to meet the demands
necessary for productive patient care technicians, multi-skilled
nursing assistants or hospital unit clerks, and be employed in a
hospital, nursing home, physician's office or other allied health
settings. Students are trained to assist physicians and nurses in
the examination and treatment of patients. Students will receive
classroom lecture situations and laboratory practice and will
ultimately be assigned into a clinical situation to apply
acquired skills and knowledge in real life situations.
Students will receive training in the following:
- Medical administration and office administration procedures
- Medical anatomy
- Laboratory procedures
- Phlebotomy
- CPR and first aid
- Externships
