Lakeview reflects a proud heritage of over one hundred years in providing excellence in nursing education. Lakeview College of Nursing is a specialized, single purpose institution of higher learning which offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Program. Students enrolled in the program have their choice of two campuses: one in Danville, IL, and the other on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.

This program is designed to meet the needs of men and women from a broad range of ages and backgrounds. The primary focus is to promote caring attitudes and behaviors in the professional nurse. The curriculum is designed to provide a liberal and professional educational foundation essential for competent practice with ethical judgment, creative and critical thinking; for understanding the individual and environment; for utilizing nursing theory and research; for promoting personal and professional growth and for enhancing motivation for continuing education.

The graduate will be prepared at the baccalaureate level in nursing to function as a generalist who is able to utilize the nursing process in a variety of healthcare settings. The major roles the graduate will be prepared to assume are direct provider of care, planner/coordinator of care and contributing member of the profession. The baccalaureate program is designed to prepare the graduate for professional nursing practice within the legal framework of the Illinois Nursing Act.

Traditional BSN Track

The Traditional Track at Lakeview College of Nursing offers students the opportunity to complete the baccalaureate program within a traditional time frame (2 years). Students may enter fall or spring semester with junior standing after completing 60 credit hours of general education and prerequisite requirements at another accredited college or university. Students continue to attend fall and spring semesters until completing the 64 credit hours of required nursing courses.

Accelerated BSN Track

Lakeview College of Nursing offers an Accelerated Track to all basic students. This track allows students to enter fall or spring semester with junior standing (after completing general education and prerequisite requirements). Additionally, this program permits students to accelerate completion of the BSN program by allowing them to finish one full semester (15-16 credit hours) of nursing courses during a summer session. The Accelerated Track allows students to complete the entire 64 credit hours of required nursing courses in 16 months. Students who have chosen the Accelerated Track say that this structure not only helps them graduate early, but also aids in their ability to retain nursing knowledge.

RN-to-BSN Completion Track

Lakeview College of Nursing recognizes that Registered Nurses have met the goals and objectives of some of the BSN courses through previous education and training. This track is designed for Registered Nurse graduates of associate degree or diploma programs who want to complete their bachelor's degree. Upon completion of Lakeview's RN-BSN Track graduates find that doors open to leadership positions, there is increased earning potential and an opportunity to practice in a wider range of settings.

Lakeview College of Nursing offers a very flexible, individualized program which can be completed in 2 semesters if the education and prerequisite courses are complete. RN Credit is granted for nursing skills already learned through school or work experience and courses may be taken either in the classroom or via videotapes. Some coursework is also available on-line. Clinicals may possibly be completed through a current employer or arranged at another convenient locations.
