University of Michigan Flint/Hurley Medical Center Nursing Program: Theoretical and clinical learning experiences prepare the student to provide care for the acutely and chronically ill and also to instruct clients in health promotion, and disease and injury prevention. BSN students also develop administrative skills necessary to manage the health care needs of clients in a variety of settings. For today's professional nurse, a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing is essential.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through 2015.

RN-to-BSN

Recognizing that each RN comes with a unique background and set of experiences, advising is personalized. An RN advisor will review your educational records and assist with application and admission procedures. This advisor will also work with students as they go through the program, determining the fastest and most effective path for completion. The University of Michigan-Flint has a revolving admission policy, and students may be admitted in fall, winter, spring or summer.

The mission of the University of Michigan-Flint's Master of Science in Nursing program is to prepare advanced practice nurses who will deliver high quality, cost effective primary health care. Graduates meet the health care needs of society in general and under-served populations through theory-based nursing practice and scholarly endeavors. The graduate program faculty promote the mission and vision of the University of Michigan Department of Nursing by supporting the further development of critical thinking, humanistic and scientific inquiry, and understanding human and cultural diversity. The mission is enhanced by faculty maintaining clinical expertise, academic excellence and a sensitivity to our partners in the diverse communities to which we serve.

The Master of Science in Nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through 2015.

MSN faculty are sensitive to students' busy lives and designed the graduate program for part-time students. It includes Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health tracks.

Adult Nurse Practitioner

The ANP is a provider of direct health care services, such as disease prevention, health promotion, and management of patients with acute and chronic multi-system health problems. Most ANPs practice in primary care settings and work with a variety of health professionals to promote restoration of health and safe optimal functioning of adolescents and adults. Graduates will be qualified to take the Adult Nurse Practitioner national certification examination. The program requires the completion of 40 credit hours of course practicum and thesis work.

Family Nurse Practitioner

The MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) emphasizes theory and skills necessary to practice as an independent Family Nurse Practitioner. The graduate will be qualified to take the Family Nurse Practitioner national certification examination. The program requires the completion of 49 credit hours of course practicum and thesis work.

Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner's role is unique and on the cutting edge of mental health care. Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners are capable of medical, pharmacological, and psychotherapeutic intervention in acute, crisis, and chronic persistent situations, as well as being skilled in disease prevention and health maintenance planning. Credentialed to practice independently, they value and seek ongoing consultative relationships with the psychiatrist and other mental health team members. Graduates will be qualified to take the Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner national certification examination. The program requires the completion of 53 credit hours of practicum and thesis work.

MS in Anesthesia

The Master of Science in Anesthesia is offered through the University of Michigan-Flint's Anesthesia Department in conjunction with Hurley Medical Center in Flint. The MS in Anesthesia is designed to educate qualified registered nurses to be highly skilled, proficient and competent health care practitioners in anesthesia by providing a wide range of experiences both in and out of the classroom. The anesthesia program combines academic and clinical anesthesia courses taught at Hurley Medical Center and the University of Michigan-Flint.

The program is dedicated to its graduates' achievements in such areas as preoperative medication, anesthesia, and management of post-anesthetic recovery.

The Master of Science in Anesthesia program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program through 2014.
