Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies, students can pursue a number of academic programs, including a RN-to-BSN, MSN and graduate certificates. The Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Accreditation is an indication of public approbation, attesting to the quality of the educational program and the continuing commitment of the sponsoring institution to support the program.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (for RNs)Back to topThe mission of the BSN program at Monmouth University is to prepare a registered nurse for professional practice through integration of a general liberal education with professional learning and activity. The professional component of this education is designed to prepare a professional nurse who promotes, restores, and maintains health for individuals, families, groups, and the community. The program is designed for graduate nurses from associate degree programs and/or diploma schools of nursing. Because this program is designed for the working RN, whenever possible classes are scheduled to meet in a three-hour block of time, one day per week. When more than one section of a course is offered, both day and evening sections are scheduled. Students may attend on either a part- or full-time basis. 
School Nurse CertificateBack to topThe post-baccalaureate certificate in School Nursing is intended for registered nurses interested in completing the requirements for the New Jersey School Nurse Certificate. The program includes 11 foundation credits that are usually included as part of a BSN program. Students with a baccalaureate degree in nursing will generally receive transfer credits for the foundation courses. The School Nurse concentration consists of an additional 23 credits. This includes the two required practica (one of which is a student-teaching experience) each involving one day per week in college determined field placements. Forensic Nursing CertificateBack to topA post-baccalaureate certificate program is available for the study of Forensic Nursing. An emerging field where healthcare providers work with law enforcement officials to apply nursing science to public and legal proceedings. These nurses provide direct services to individuals and consultation to healthcare and law-related agencies. This program is part of Monmouth University's effort to contribute to the healthcare profession in Monmouth County and surrounding areas.
RN to MSN Direct ProgramBack to topThe RN to MSN Direct program is designed to allow nurses to more quickly attain a Master of Science in Nursing degree. Registered nurses who presently hold an associate degree or diploma in nursing will be able to earn an MSN degree without earning a baccalaureate degree. The RN to MSN program is a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses. Students will need to complete a total of 150 credits. Students may be able to complete the program in as little as 3 years. The philosophy of the MSN program at Monmouth University prepares nurses for the advanced nursing roles of educator, administrator and practitioner. Our nursing faculty members believe that education at the master's degree level is essential to provide the student with a broad knowledge base with a concentration in a selected area of specialization; develop justifiable confidence and proficiency necessary for advanced nursing; and realize full potential through development of autonomy, leadership and professionalism. The MSN program is designed to prepare nurses for advanced nursing roles by providing professional learning and activity to help students develop expertise in a defined body of knowledge arrived at through the study of research and practice in selected areas. It places the graduate student in relevant settings based on the nursing role they have chosen to pursue; has faculty members who are experienced nurse practitioners, educators and administrators; and provides individual attention for all students.
Post-Master's CertificatesBack to topMonmouth's post-master's certificate is designed for nurses who have already completed a master's degree in nursing. The nursing practitioner certificate programs place advanced practice nurses in primary care or other relevant settings to work with persons in their environment through independent nursing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment or referral to another practitioner when necessary. The Nursing Administration certificate program prepares nurses to function in management and executive positions.
