The State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT)
offers a growing array of undergraduate majors and graduate
programs in technology, professional studies and the liberal
arts. Founded in 1966, SUNYIT currently enrolls about 2,500
students on its Marcy, N.Y., campus--the newest in the State
University of New York system. Funding has been approved and
planning is underway for two new major campus buildings: a $20
million field house and a $13.7 million student services
building.
SUNYIT students come from all over New York, many other states,
and more than 20 other nations; a growing number of students also
take SUNYIT courses and, in some cases, entire degree programs
online. Through internships and close cooperation with employers,
SUNYIT has extraordinarily high placement rates. More than 22,000
alumni have launched or enhanced successful careers with a SUNYIT
degree.
The School of Nursing and Health Systems continues to be in the
forefront of nursing education as it plays a leadership role in
central New York and in the SUNY Nursing Consortium Outreach
Program in eastern New York. The School's nursing programs are
accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
(CCNE). The baccalaureate program is registered by the New York
State Education Department.
RN-BS Program
The School of Nursing and Health Systems offers a curriculum
leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The baccalaureate
program is designed exclusively to serve licensed registered
nurses from state-approved or diploma nursing programs who are
prepared to focus on their professional and career development.
Improving the nation's health in the next decade requires
increasing the variety of care delivery settings available to the
general population. Professional nurses of tomorrow must be
prepared today to meet the challenges posed by these enhanced
access alternatives. The curricular emphases in baccalaureate
nursing programs on health promotion and maintenance behaviors,
coordinating cost-effective quality care, and community-based,
community-focused health care are particularly appropriate to
achieving the future's agenda. It is estimated that the growing
demand for baccalaureate-prepared nurses will exceed
availability.
Accelerated BS/MS Program

Professional registered nurses can complete a BS in nursing and
an MS in one of three areas in just three years of full-time
study at SUNY Institute of Technology through SUNYIT's
Accelerated BS/MS Programs.
Applicants must meet specific criteria to enroll in SUNYIT's
Accelerated BS/MS programs for professional registered nurses and
may choose from one of three majors: adult nurse practitioner,
family nurse practitioner and nursing administration.

programs in the following areas:
- Adult nurse practitioner
- Family nurse practitioner

Nurse practitioners provide primary health care, emphasizing
health promotion, health maintenance, health restoration and
disease prevention. Nursing administrators create and sustain
practice environments that facilitate the delivery of quality
nursing services and health care. MS prepared nurse educators are
critical to the future of the nursing profession. The program
promotes the core application of theory, research and health care
policy to the role of the nurse educator within the academic and
in-service settings. Cognate courses include grant proposal,
measurement and assessment, and legal issues. Specialty courses
include curriculum development, instructional design and
evaluation approaches.
Depending on the professional goals of aspiring advance practice
nurses, the School of Nursing and Health System's graduate degree
programs are responsive to the projected nursing needs for the
next decade.
SUNYIT also offers advanced certificates in all its graduate
programs. All of these on-campus graduate programs are designed
to accommodate a variety of student needs and schedules; online,
Saturdays during the academic year, etc.
