39 Nursing Scholarships for
All Kinds of Students

Choosing a career in nursing means you may be entering a meaningful field that has what the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) considers a steady outlook for job growth and, with the right education, may present opportunities for advancement. However, it can take years of costly education to qualify as a nursing professional and figuring out how you’ll pay for school can be an overwhelming task.

If fees for tuition, books, and materials are interfering with reaching your goals, you may find help by applying for a wide range of scholarships. Even one award can make an impactful difference.

While there are requirements for securing any scholarship, don’t underestimate your chance of receiving an award. There are scholarships open to all kinds of nursing students, with many designed for applicants with specific specialties, cultural identities, histories in the military, and other demographic characteristics.

Whether you’re a high school senior planning for freshman year or a working professional seeking new direction in your career, scholarships can be a valuable tool for helping you pay for the education you need to succeed.

Nursing-Specific Scholarships

According to the BLS, job opportunities for registered nurses are expected to grow by up to 5.6% through 2032, creating more than 195,400 new jobs. The outlook is similarly encouraging for licensed practical nurses, also with an anticipated job growth of up to 5.3%.

Other Financial Resources

While scholarships can make a significant contribution toward easing your financial burden, you can supplement scholarship awards by applying for financial aid, private or school-based grants, student loans, and work-study opportunities to help bridge the gap between your available resources and outstanding bills. The Federal Student Aid website offers a FAFSA4caster tool to help you determine your eligibility for federal student aid. Most colleges require that you file a FAFSA to qualify for any type of financial assistance.

If you’ve incurred debt from your nursing education, you may be eligible for reimbursement from programs that offer nursing student loan forgiveness. This option may also be available from regional or state health organizations, as well as individual employers, as an incentive to work in a specific geographic area or individual healthcare location.
